Research Areas
My research develops data analytics, artificial intelligence, and computational methods for extracting knowledge from complex spatial and temporal data. The methods come first; sustainability and the environment, earthquakes, volcanoes, floods, climate, biomedical signals, and markets are the applications. Publications often belong to several areas, and every count below links to the filtered publication list.
I teach and advise in the Department of Geology, Environment, and Sustainability at Hofstra University, and students majoring in Sustainability are welcome in every one of these areas. The first area below gathers the environmental and sustainability work: water quality, air quality, flooding, coastal change, emissions, and the data skills that turn those records into evidence. The same skills are taught step by step in my 2026 book R for Earth and Sustainability Data Analytics, written with Dr. Katerina Tsakiri.
I always keep open space for new topics. If you are working on a sustainability question that is not listed here, or you want to bring your own, write to me and we can shape a project around it.
